Hey Mister DJ...

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I thought we had chosen our DJ.  I talked to her, and thought she sounded pretty cool.  She sings also-and I liked that addition to the music.  I liked her until I emailed previous brides who had used her.

This is a great tip.  Don't use references provided by your vendor.  Ask the person in charge of your venue for email addresses of brides who have used that vendor.  If I hadn't emailed those brides, I never would have known that
1) the DJ only played 2 out of the 20 personal and special songs the bride had put on a CD for her.
2) even though the venue is not strict on the 11pm ending-and Suzy (the coordinator) has told all brides that it can go later if needed, the DJ started packing up at 11 on the dot, and even taking song books out of guests hands.
3) she BUTCHERED the names of the wedding party even though the bride had pronounced them for her AND written them in correct pronunciation form.

SO, we cancelled the deposit check that we had put in the mail YESTERDAY, and called to cancel with her.

Now I have to find a DJ.  This is something that makes me very nervous, because I generally despise DJ's as a whole.  I find them to be arrogant and obnoxious-and I don't ever think they're funny.

What are your experiences with DJ's?  What are some things I need to be sure to tell them so they understand that I'm not a typical bride, and ours is not a typical wedding?

Why do I find these things out from your blog? I'm your SISTER!

Oh, terrible. Can you find references online and start there? That's what I did, then googled the heck out of the company name once I had one in mind. We'll see how well that worked in September. ;)

Oh that is awful! Thank goodness you heard about this when you did.

Good girl to check those references! I know how you feel with DJs, we got so frustrated with the lack of quality that we are just going to iPod/laptop our wedding. It's so hard to find a good DJ, good luck, I hope you find someone you love!

Hey...I don't know how much the price has been when you looked at DJ's but when I planned my wedding a year and a half ago I used a band that was a family friend of my best friend. There price was so reasonable and actually compared to several DJ's that I looked at. I don't know what you are budgeting but I have the best band ever that will play for four hours for approximately $2100. You can even do one hour of jazz while people are eating and then three hours of band music and it is cheaper. Let me know if you want the info. I can send it on facebook.

first of all, make sure that they have a different go-to person on your big day that is not you. like your coordinator or a family member who is willing to be that person. our dj was great, but when dinner was starting a little late because the pastor was not there yet for the blessing, the dj came up to me and my hubs and just about chewed us out for running late and started to threaten that certain things were not going to happen if we delayed any longer. that was our only qualm with our dj. good luck and i love your blog!!
